Year of the Snake! on December the7th 1942 which was also the Year of the Snake, the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor happened
which brought the United states into War with the Axis powers of Germany and Japan which ended with Europe being bombed to
bits and the Island of Japan suffering the first atomic attacks known in modern history! The airplane for Friday was
the F-6F Hellcat built by Grumman and Saturday is the F-7F Tigercat a twin engine also built by Grumman! The F-6F there were
some 12,272 produced and a improved version of the F-4F Wildcat! On the internet it says that the Hellcat was first flown
in June 26th of 1942 and shot up or down some 5200 plus enemy aircraft and cost about $35,000 dollar's a copy. In Tinkerbell's
home town of Moline Illinois when he was growing up the airport manager of the Moline airport was an ace with five Japanese
kills in a F-6F!
The F-7F Tigercat was a twin engine aircraft although did
not see combat service in WW2 it was used in the early stages of the Korean war! Only just over about 300 aircraft were produced
and it shot down two enemy bi-planes in the early Korean war!
