6/12/2014 Ok so cool it is Thursday and we are trying to play catch up on our codex airplane code for this past days of the
week June 10th and 11th 2014!
Well today we have the XB-10 B-10 bomber built
by the Glenn L. Martin company and it first flew on 16 February 1932. Interestingly enough the Consolidated PT-11 was Wednesday
and it first flew in 1931! Only 41 PT-11's were built and they were built for the U.S. Army Air corps and the Coast Guard
but most of them went to foreign operators such as Mexico!
The Martin B-10
won the Collier Trophy a very important aviation award and the B-10 was made of aluminum ( All Metal) and was faster
then all the other bombers at the time and most Pursuit Planes (fighter's)! Peyton M. Mc Gruder designed it and it cost some
$58,083 each and they built 348 of them the last one was retired by the royal Thai Air Force in 1949!
To give a snap shot of the times from 1925 through 1932 there were 500 unsolved murders in the Detroit area cause was related
to Prohibition wars and a Jewish gang that ran the bootlegging around Detroit called the Purple gang! In Germany in 1926-1928
Count von Zeppelin airship company was building the very successful Graf Zeppelin that flew all over the place! and in 1930
the largest airship at the time the R-101 British airship crashed on its Maiden flight to India and killed several high ranking
British aviation people it first flew in 1929 but had been in the works since 1927 and had several major modifications in
its construction!
