Ok so cool we are publishing! The F6F Grumman Hellcat was produced between 1942-1945 with 12,275
built at a unit cost of $35,000 dollars in 1945!
It had an 18 cylinder Pratt&
Whitney R-2800 double wasp radial engine same engine as the F-4U Vought Corsair and produced about 2000 horse power! Developed
from the F4F Grumman Wildcat it entered front line combat service in 1943. The Uruguayan navy operated them in the 1960's
and the French used them in Indochina! The British purchased them through the Lend Lease Act and the first ones were called
the Grumman Gannet Mark I!
The F6F Hellcat, destroyed more enemy aircraft then any
other single design in WW2 both in the air and on the ground!
From October through
November to December we show where such things inter-connected as the stock market crash happened on Friday October 29th 1929
and you can see the largest land aircraft up to that time first flew on November the 6th 1929! Helmut Lent pictured here relate's
to the area near downtown Stuart called Pottsdam named after a famous city in Germany!
