Monday ( moon's day in Saxon) is the B-23 Dragon aircraft built by Douglas built as a more refined aircraft to replace the
B-18 Bolo ( Douglas) it was powered by Wright cyclone R2600-1 engines and was promising enough to the UAAF to have the last
38 B-18 to be built as B-23's! Under contract AC9977 it first flew on July 27, 1939 and 38 were built by September 1940!
Although interestingly enough the XB-21 built by North American which was known as the," Dragon", only one XB-21 was built
it's first flight was 22 December 1936 later under the NA-39 and NA-40 company projects developed into the North American
B-25 Mitchell bomber which bombed Tokyo Japan after taking off in the middle of the Pacific from an aircraft carrier
with the famous air race pilot Jimmy Doolittle leading the attackers a couple of months after Pearl Harbor was attacked in
December 7th 1941!
Several B-23's Dragon's (Douglas) flew patrol mission's
off the west cost they were never used in combat overseas survive and were used as transports Howard Hughes used one
as an executive transport and GE used five B-23 (UC-67) in Scenectedy New York!
for the 25th of June 2014 the North American B-25 Mitchell (Named after Gen Billy Mitchell), as the company's name the
NA-40 it first flew on 19 August 1940 the last one was retired from the Indonesian Air force in 1979! Some 9984 were built
but we do not have a price! Tinker(bell)'s maintenance Sargent in Vietnam was a crew chief on a B-25 during WW2!
Consolidated B-24 Liberator is June 24th 2014 it first flew on December 29th 1939! Was built by consolidated aircraft of San
Diego, California early versions were sold as the LB-30 ( Land Bomber) June has thirty days in it!
Known in the company as the model 32 it was actually going to be a contract to build under license the Boeing B-17 but the
designer Ruben Fleet decided he could build a better bomber! with its light weight construction and many fuel tanks it could
fly faster farther and carry more bomb's. Harder to fly then the B-17 it was the B-24 also less safe and could not with
stand the punishment of air combat as well as the B-17!
There were over 18,482
built at a cost of $297,627 each about $4.77 million today! the last one was retired by the Indian Air force in 1968!
June 25th the airplane codex template in the North American B-25 Mitchell bomber ( one of these aircraft crashed into the
Empire State Building in 1945 killing 14 people in heavy fog)! the B-25 developed into the XB-28 but program was canceled
at end of war!
June 26th the Martin B-26 Marauder medium bomber not to be confused
with Douglas A-26 Invader! The B-26 Marauder first flew on 25 November 1940 the first production models were dubbed the widow
maker after many crashes after improved crew training and aerodynamic modifications the aircraft turned out to be the leading
bombardment weapon of the Western Front (Europe) the B-25 was used mainly in the Pacific theater! The Martin B-26 cost about
$102,659 dollars for the B-26A and 5,288 were built!
A-26 Douglas Invader also
falls on the 26th of June 2014 it first flew on 10 July 1942 2,242 were built and very much modified A-26 B-26 ( Re-designated
Douglas B-26 after retiring Martin B-26's in 1948), flew combat into the 1960's! Cost per unit was $242,595 dollars!
Also the airplane template codex for the 26th of June is the Boeing P-26 Peashooter which the program was started
in September 1931 as the model 248 (Boeing) with the engines and instruments supplied by the Army Air Corps
and
the airframes built by Boeing an open cockpit they were still used by the USAAF in the Philippines in 1941! The last one was
retired by Guatemala in 1956 it first flew on 20 March 1932!
