Tinkerbell is not an expert about this battle that occured above the Ho Chi Minh Trail in 1971 near a provincal
capital in Vietnam of the area named Dung Ha.
He played a small just in case roll as a helicopter mechanic that could fly an airplane
" just in case take him with ya" Tinker refers to the mission. One day while at my base in Nha Trang a member of
the flight crew in the VIP flight company I was assigned to after the original pick of a duty station the 5th special forces
Nha Trang deactivated and went home while I was on leave between my first and second tours of Vietnam.
The day Tinker entered the Army was the day that NASA landed on the moon and they
declared a National holiday. And this flight crew called up and asked if I would take the flight for him as he said he wanted
to go to the P.X.
Oh cool, Tinkerbell said, as he was just learning to listen to the music in the quarters
on base and learn to hold pot smoke in my lungs almost 15 months after I'd been Vietnam had joined the army and graduated
from high school. As Tinkerbell was not on flight status except on maintenance observation flights flying around on missions
was a delight, it got you out and off the enclosure of base operations(even though he had a girlfriend that lived downtown).
He had done this before and was young and fearless enouph to like to go on these flights and see the country side and relate
to the flight operations that mostly found himself knee deep into the workings of a Huey helicopter and bending wrenches.
Lamsong was 719 feet or meters high and situated I think in Laos near the Ho
CHi Minh trail on this mission half way there we picked up in our 120mph Huey fighter escort! Two Phantom jets that were camoflaged
and turning and turning around and above and below us as we wound our way through the mountains of the coast into the interior
of Veitnam. Little did I know that at this very time in the battalion headquarters a battle around helicopters was raging
full steam and in the end were to find the battalion lost 75 or 80 helicopters out of 100 or 120 assigned to them at battalion
strength.
Almost to Dung Ha the jumping off point to Lamsong 719 my eyes were guarding the skys
these fighter jets without a word were warning us about Mig fighter planes my head and eyes were twisting in panic as i tried
to crawl my terrified body inside my helmut out of the corner of my eye in a split second I saw a camoflaged cargo plane go
down below the hills no smoke but again I didn't look! Everything was blured and my heart was in my throat.
Finaly we came over some large trees and I saw a big house with a landing pad near to
it we landed on it and I unhooked my harness seat belt and relieved my self as the Huey was at flight idle. As my eyes were
hipnotized and my stream of urine comming out of my body from my left another stream of urine and as I turned my eyes caught
the three stars on the collar of a General as I tuck myself away and words bellowed from him," come on son lets get out
of here"!
The flight back to Nha Trang was uneventive but I was shattered,"Wanted to go to
the P.X.", I thought.
Later when talking to my friend from California "Peter Breath".with a lung full
of THC and listening to his stereo I told him of my recent trip to Battalion headqurters and saw the operations board in personnel
where I have this information about the incuring battle there were 60 personnel missing and Peter said Kurt you have to tell
the first sargent. High On pot that I was just learning about, I said I don't want to cause I've been smoking pot. I'll
tell him then Peter said and it wasn't long that from my room in quarters I could hear the first sargent in the orderly
room yelling at someone from Siagon about how they had to tell people about this stuff in order to make the operators who
run the company know what to do.
True story and I got out of Veitnam after 18 months and cam home to stay in 1972 where
I bought a used airplane worked in a steel mill and met Karla my first official wife alias Pippey Long Stocking!
Lamsong 719 was where ARVIN troops were slaughterd and from this action there use
to be a video. Tinkerbell was awarded an Army Comendation Metal upon his discharge but the hautings of those and that day
dancing in the skys in a 100mph Huey with Phantom jets and Migs and generals singular stay with me to this day.
Ok so what would of happened if Tinkerbell would have been hurt or killed .When Tinkerbell
lays on his bed at night and thinks about his little life. We wouldn't have this web site with a rendering of Christafer
Robin and we wouldn't have this web site with a discussion on the possibilities of Christafer Robin and Udets Platform to
take care of a potential asteroid problem, and a platform project to launch manned space exploration to the solar system's
planets after that. A crossroads in our future and space relative to earth and its people and future. Tinkerbell thinks in
the dark on his bed and thinks of all that is holy is and has been at risk.
After the mission was over and before Tinkerbell went to battalion headquarters to look
and the operations board in the personnel department. He went downtown to see his girlfriend and not long after that after
a conversation with some of the other members of the enlisted flight crew Tinkerbell was asked if he could check up on buying
some pot so that the enlisted personnel who after this battle did not risk going down town or dealing with they had been dealing
with previously and they wanted to stay in their on base hooches and smoke pot and listen to their music Tinkerbell acknowleged
their fears after knowing first hand about the circumstance surrounding the situation and went downtown to see if his girlfriend
cold find out how much pot cost's in Vietnam for the GI's to smoke on base in their off hours. She said, she knew where they
sold the stuff in the market and would check. I was given $50.00 dollars and Lin came back with 2 point two pounds of pot
a kilo for $36.00 dollars I took the pot into my knew found friends in the flight crew and they hit the roof overjoyed
that they had their old problems of dealing with the Viet Cong over with. They gave me another $50.00 dollars and I went to
Lin this time when she went she got busted by the Vietamiese police and thrown into a prison in Nha Trang where the VC crimminals
men women and children and the crazy people all inhabited all togather in an open court yard guarded by guards on a wall with
sub machine guns. Tinkerbell had to wait 3or 4 days to get paid and pay a months pay in bribes that Lin's friends family were
nice enouph to set up.
Come to find out that after and during this giant helicopter battle as I call it that communication
to the differant bases and units all over Vietnam was disrupted and that the CIA was misled about the situation in the jails
and prison's from what Tinkerbell found out.
It wasn't long after this that Tinkerbell went home to the states and Wendy the witch
(Tinkerbells sisiter) turned my military pass on the airlines to a first class ticket directly home right over the heads
of prying eyes.(Wendy at the time had worked for the airlines and was now a travel agent for a company that from time to time
did business with the material and logistics command of the U.S. Army). True story! Tinkerbell was home and watched the movie
,"Bullet", with Steve Mcqueen and thought about the Weathermen underground!
