Ok so cool we are publishing it is early Morning the 26th of May and we are going to
talk about the B-25 Mitchell bomber for yesterday May 25th 2014!
Developed out of
a aircraft development from North American aviation that was a mid wing design with superchargers installed on the engines
it was the XB-21 which even though was not the real Dragon aircraft which was built by Douglas (Called the B-23 Dragon which
first flew on July 27th 1939), the XB-21 in which only one was built and flew first flew on December 22nd 1936 it was known
as the Dragon at the time! Confusing?
True story though as what developed out of
the XB-21 was the B-25 Mitchell bomber over 9984 of these aircraft were built but we do not have a price and was the mainstay
of the USAAF's medium bomber fleet along with the Martin B-26 Marauder!
On July 28th
1945 on B-25D in heavy fog crashed into the north side of the Empire state building killing 14 people 11 in the building and
the three aircraft crewmen! and because of this incident the World Trade Towers (9/11 2001), which were built in the
1970's were designed to withstand the collision with a 707 jet which was the common airliner at the time but could not withstand
a hit from a larger 767 with hundred's of gallons of jet fuel on board! the B-25 first flew on 19 August 1940!
This day Memorial Day May 26th 2014 which is a Monday which means in Saxon Moon's day! Tinker thinks its funny that
some guy on Fox news network wrote a book about George Washington's spy network and on the AMC movie channel they are showing
a revolutionary war spy thriller called Turn. So as we look up the airplane codex template for today we come up with a really
cool one the Boeing P-26 Peashooter which was the first all metal mono-plane of the U.S. Army Air Corps that work was
started in September 1931! Its first flight was 20 March 1932 ( Talk about beware of the IDS of March) 248 were built at a
cost of $14,009 dollars each! They had a bit of a early combat history! they were flown by the Nationalist Chinese pilots
who the first all metal to metal aircraft air combat took place on 18 August 1937 when P-26's engaged Japanese Nell bombers
and shot two of them down! and they when the Japanese attacked the Pillippines P-26's shot down several Japanese aircraft
including one or two A6m Zero's according to the internet information!
But
by 1935 because of major advances in aeronautics only a few years after the P-26's introduction aircraft such as the P-36
and the BF-109 and the Hurricane were being tested with enclosed cockpits retractable landing gear and cantalever wings
the P-26 Peashooter despite being all metal had wire's bracing the wings open cockpit and fixed landing gear! We are
going to look up the dates of the crash and flight of the British R101 airship and the flight of the British R-100 airship
to see how close the crash of the R-101 relates to the time!
Looking up information
on the crash of the British airship R101 quite a lot of information was in the material we noticed though that the R-101 crashed
in France on its maiden voyage to India the R-101 was the largest airship at the time and it's size was not surpassed until
the Hindenburg flew 7 years later! The R-101 crashed on 5 October 1930 and the final report of the crash was completed
on March 27th 1931! Quite the airship at the time it was built in conjuction with the Vickers airship R-100 and this
led to the socialist and capitalist British airship programs that Tinker noticed were around 1922-23 to 1927 and it
first flew in 1929! Now we are going to look up the death of Glenn Hammond Curtiss and see if there is a connection relation, when
he died which from what we understand was complications of an appendix attack in court with one of Curtiss's early aircraft
manufacturing business partners! Glenn Hamond Curitss died on July 23rd 1930!
May
26th 2014 the airplane template codex code for this day is the Martin B-26 Marauder which was known as the widow maker due
to the high number of accidents when landing and taking off! Built by the Glenn L. Martin Company and first flown on 25 November
1940 5,288 were built at a cost of $102,659.33 it was introduced in 1941 and from it's design was the un-built XB-33 Super
Marauder! Checking up on the Glenn L. Martin Company we find that it was defunct in 1961! But had built a rocket which supposedly
was the first one completely built by itself with out taking parts from one rocket for another!
May 26th 2014 is also the codex template for the Douglas A26 Invader which Tinker saw when he was in Vietnam it was built
in the last years of WW2 but mainly used in Korea and Vietnam by the South Vietnamese and the French! originally classified
as the A-26 it was re-designated the second B-26 of the United States armed forces and a modified version used as an insurgency
aircraft called the On Mark B-26K a Captain Pope flying one for the CIA was shot down by an Indonesian P-51 Mustang he bailed
out and was captured and put on trial!
